After the success at Bacău, we decided together that this beautiful movement should move on, being a much too beautiful thing happening to us and that it would be a mistake not to continue. We contacted Habitat people and decided to give a helping hand on the construction site in Cumpăna, Constanța county.

This time we established a smaller number of bikers needed… 150. It’s a very good thing that this aspect was set first, as we were „at-risk” to have at least 1000 people coming after the success from the previous year. In such a case, it would arise the problem of ensuring working conditions: tools, protective gear, an entire logistics.

At the beginning of June, 150 bikers from across the country were on the working site in Cumpăna. The weather was beautiful, perfect for working. We dig tunnels, made poles from reinforced steel, painted, put up walls, insulated interior and exterior walls, we did almost everything that depended on us and we set out to do everything that day. Bikers For Humanity actions take place during the weekends. On Fridays, the bikers arrive on the site, install the tents, prepare their gear and rest for the following day. Saturday is the working day: from 7 a.m. until dawn… On Sundays we have coffee, take down our tents, clean up and hit the road to our homes. Sunday is when we say good-bye to our beneficiaries. Every time we get the same reactions: on Friday when we arrive we’re looked at with suspicion, something like: “I’ll let you build my house, but I won’t let you in”, while when we leave they hug us with tears in their eyes and they thank us for our help.
